Sleep Narratives Test Run

Sleep Narratives
These are test runs for the Sleep Narratives project in which I use time lapse photography to capture images every 2 minutes of people as they sleep. Challenges in getting enough tonal range with the low lighting. Set this up over my own bed to test run and minimize any challenges before running the project with others. Shutter a bit loud though I acclimated to it after a night or two. Will try to have some sort of white noise going during shoots to minimize the disturbance of the shutter sound. Also challenges in suspending the camera over the bed. Here is where I owe a big thanks to Steve Gittings for building me a portable rig that I can set up over nearly any bed!!! Thank you, thank you. Ready to go on the road!!! Volunteers??

What They Said Over Time

These pieces are a reflection of how much external dialogue we take in, how challenging it can be to both quiet all of the dialogue in our minds in the immediate as well as a look at the slippery nature of memory for the past - thus increasingly faint words as one travels back across the days of this calendar. These phrases, etc. are all taken from life - snatches of things people have said to me in conversations. They act as a sort of documentary/diary of pieces of my interactions.

Essence of Heart

Essence of Heart

'Transform, Munificent, Capacious'
Each of these Valentines I made with someone I know in mind. Being an artist who enjoys the nuance and implication of words nearly as much as form and drawing, I of course had to integrate these into my pieces. I thought a bit of Elizabeth Gilbert's reference in 'Eat, Love, Pray' to the concept of each city having one word that captures the essence of that city. What word captures the essence of the state of these people's hearts right now? I realized that I know a lot of people who have hearts in various states of repair and disrepair. I guess with a certain amount of time spent in this world most of us are bound to have had at least a little bit of broken in our hearts. What do we choose to do with this? What is the state of your heart?
